Betulinic acid (BA),the active ingredients of Birch Bark Extract,is a natural lupine pentacyclic triterpene compound. It is a white crystalline powder with slight gas and bitter taste. It was first found in the bark of Rhamnaceae evergreen plants growing in eastern Africa in the 1990s.It can be extracted from Pu Tao leaves, birch bark, and jujube kernels; it can also be obtained by chemical synthesis using betulin as raw material.
