Litchi belongs to the family of Sapindaceae. The plant is a dense, symmetrical, evergreen tree with a dark brown trunk. The tree has erect or drooping branches, depending on the cultivar. A well-managed litchi orchard usually has about 70 trees per hectare  There are more than 100 commercial cultivars throughout the world .
